During MPEG meetings, each MPEG sub working group creates ad hoc groups to progress the work on specific topics within a smaller group until the next MPEG meeting. The work is usually progressed by email and conference calls.

GroupAG 5 - MPEG Visual Quality Assessment
Mandates
1. Produce the output document “CVQM - Dataset of compressed video for study of quality metrics (version 3)”,  including results and analyses from CVQM-UHD subjective quality assessment experiments, as well as necessary data files;
2. Work towards producing an update to the report “Learning-based quality metrics and 2D video databases under study (v3)”;
3. Study further extensions of the CVQM dataset, e.g. by including AIGC and HDR content;
4. Study the correlation between objective quality metrics and subjective quality scores using the CVQM dataset as well as suitable public datasets;
5. Study the suitability of learning-based quality metrics for evaluating compression performance.

GroupWG 7 - MPEG Coding of 3D Graphics and Haptics
Mandates
1. Continue to refine the work plan for Part 28;
2. Continue experiments and tests related to the test data and test methodologies for scene-based media interchange;
3. Continue experiments toward implementing a demonstration of Part 28, i.e., to use the IMS to translate between 3D formats;
4. Study the types of information that should be reported as a result of a translation process, and determine where such information should be stored, e.g.,  in an asset if applicable or in a separate report;
5. Refine the Architecture and implementation aspects of reference software and demonstration for Part 28
6. Continue to study examples of using IMS with other 3D formats, e.g., especially in the creation of the demonstration of Part 28;
7. Write a white paper on SMI, taking into consideration results of the development of a demonstration of Part 28;
8. Continue to solicit industry engagement (e.g., reach out to Metaverse Standards Forum to showcase the demo currently in progress);
9. Refine the requirements of Part 28 especially taking into consideration shortcomings of the current version 1 of the Part 28 and the desire to support additional formats beyond glTF;
